Seasonal Ratings

What are Seasonal Ratings?

Seasonal Ratings are the most traditional and conservative method of rating overhead lines. They are fixed values based on "worst-case" weather assumptions for an entire season (e.g., a fixed summer rating based on 35°C ambient temperature and very low wind).

  • In Gridraven’s Context: We treat Seasonal Ratings as the baseline for comparison. While SR provides a safe "floor," it often leaves up to 30–50% of existing grid capacity unused because it ignores real-time cooling effects.
  • How Gridraven Uses It: Our platform displays SR as a reference point to visualize the "capacity gain" achieved when switching to more advanced rating methods.

Example:

  • Winter rating: higher capacity (cold air, better cooling)
  • Summer rating: lower capacity (hotter air, worse cooling) They do not change hour-by-hour, only when the season changes
