What are Ambient Adjusted Ratings?
Ambient Adjusted Ratings improve upon seasonal ratings by updating the line’s capacity based on the actual (or forecasted) air temperature, while still keeping wind speed at a fixed, conservative value (typically 0.6 m/s).
- In Gridraven’s Context: AAR is a "temperature-only" dynamic rating. It accounts for the fact that a line can carry more current on a cold day than on a hot day, regardless of wind.
- How Gridraven Uses It: Following regulations like FERC Order 881, Gridraven calculates AAR hourly. It is particularly useful for grid operators who are not yet ready for full DLR but want to unlock immediate capacity based on accurate temperature downscaling.
